Boruto: The Secret Behind the Otsutsuki Civil War Revealed

In Chapter 50 of the Boruto Manga, we find out how Isshiki handles the trio of Naruto, Boruto, and Sasuke. Naruto is even desperate to the point that he even puts his life on the line to defeat the alien. But there is little they are able to do to counter the attack from their adversary who always appears to be one step ahead of them. Boruto struggles to come up with the idea that might give them an upper hand while they fight with Isshiki in a secret dimension.

As they battle with Isshiki in the latest chapter, Boruto finally gets some idea why Isshiki can’t kill him. His insight into the matter reveals the truth behind the Otsutsuki civil war that happened centuries ago. We learn in the Naruto series that Kaguya arrived on Earth alone; however, that is not true. It turns out that aliens always come in pairs, but his partner, for some strange reason, betrayed Isshiki. He chose not to retaliate and embedded himself in Jigen, a monk waiting for the right opportunity to make his move.

He wants to use the Ten-Tails to create God Tree exactly like Kaguya to take out all of Earth’s energy to make chakra fruits that can be used by the members of his clan to power up and become immortal. Amado was able to confirm that one of the Otsutsuki members was supposed to be a sacrifice. In order to become a seedling, the junior one of the two was supposed to be fed to the Ten-Tails. Since Kaguya was the one who had to be sacrificed, she betrayed Isshiki, and herself consumed the chakra fruit from God Tree. She then began the seeding out chakra, which was how Sasuke and Naruto’s shinobi came about.

Isshiki then changes his plans following Kaguya’s death. When he observed Boruto transforming into Momoshiki, and he already had a Karma mark, he decided to use Boruto as the meal, which would allow him to consume the chakra fruit. Isshiki does not want to kill Boruto because, as Momoshiki, he gives a much more powerful food source than Jigen. It will ensure that he will get stronger and purer fruit to level up.

However, these new revelations do raise a ton of questions. There is no clear explanation where the God Tree seedling came from? If the tree did grow without a sacrifice, it meant it must have consumed another Otsutsuki member, but there is little clarity on who that member was. In the Naruto series, neither Madara nor Obito feed the Ten-Tails an Otsutsuki for the God Tree to form. Kaguya became the Ten-Tails by emerging from the Zetsu attached to Madara and then combining with God Tree’s husk.

There is not much clarity on how the whole process works, but fans can expect that there must be some explanation in the next few episodes. However, it is now quite evident that Kaguya wanted Isshiki to die for her self-preservation.
