Pokemon Sword and Shield: How and Where to Plant Carrot Seeds

The Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra expansion has added plenty of challenges, quests, rewards, and tournaments for players to complete. Before searching for the Legendary Pokemon, players have to finish the main story and a few major game objectives. Developers have improved many items from the Isle of Armor DLC and added plenty of new Pokemon, Tournaments, challenges, and locations to explore. There’s a special quest in the game that is offering a new Legendary Pokemon named Calyrex.

It’s a new Legendary Pokemon that players can catch. But before that, players have to get some carrot seeds while playing the quest. The carrot seeds can only be planted at two different locations of the game. The following two locations are:

  • Snowslide Slope
  • Old Cemetery

Choosing a location among both will decide what Pokemon players will get and what they will lose. The decision of players will also determine what Calyrex form players will have to access. If a player decides to plant the carrot seeds at Old Cemetery, they will encounter Spectrier. It’s a Legendary Ghost-type Pokemon that has Grim Neigh as an ability. Grim Neigh enhances the special attack of the Pokemon and helps the Pokemon to survive longer using damaging moves. The Spectrier fuses with Calyrex that turns out to be a Shadow Rider, which helps in battles.

The Shadow Rider Calyrex is a powerful dual Ghost/Psychic-type Pokemon, while normal Calyrex is a Psychic/Grass-type Pokemon. Calyrex has the ability named As One that allows the Pokemon to operate both Calyrex and Grim Neigh’s ability, Unnerve. This ability stops the opponent from eating berries. During the battle, it is necessary to eat berries, and Unnerve ability completely breaks the opponent and leads the player to victory.

On the other hand, if a player plants the seed at the Snowslide Slope, they will encounter Glastrier instead of Spectrier. Glastrier is an Ice-type Pokemon that has Chilling Neigh as an ability. The following ability is no different than Grim Neigh, but it improves the physical attacks rather than special attacks. By using this ability, players can quickly faint an opponent. If players decide to have Glastrier, it will fuse with the Calyrex and will become an Ice Rider Calyrex.

The Ice Rider Calyrex is also a powerful Ice/Psychic-type Pokemon that has the same name ability As One. However, this ability functions differently from the Shadow Rider Calyrex’s ability. The following ability combines Unnerve with Chilling Neigh instead of the Grim Neigh.

Players have only legendary Pokemon, but it is up to the players who they want to operate it. Pokemon Sword and Shield allows the players to use Calyrex with Ghost-type moves or Ice-type moves. Both of the forms are different from each other, and both have separate strengths and weaknesses. If players wish to have Ghost-type moves, they must plant the carrot seed at Old Cemetery. While if they want to have Ice-type moves, they must plant the carrot seed at Snowslide Slope.

It could be slightly difficult for the players to choose one place among both. The players who have been playing Pokemon games for a long time are completely aware that Ice-type Pokemon has more weaknesses than Ghost-type Pokemon. The Ice Rider Calyrex will be weak against Fire, Fighting, Steel, Bug, Rock, Dark, and Ghost-type attacks, while the Shadow Rider Calyrex will be only weak against Ghost and Dark-type moves.

Conclusion

The evolution procedures are usually simple, but developers always add a unique procedure to Legendary Pokemon. Finding Calyrex is pretty simple, but to add a special move and rider skill, players have to plant seeds. The game’s great thing is that players can plant multiple carrot seeds if they want to have multiple Ice or Shadow Rider Calyrex. Pokemon Sword and Shield is available on Nintendo Switch.
