Are You Ready to See a Rare Blue Moon on Halloween Night?

 Happening for the first time in the post-war era, a fascinating sight of the clear blue moon will be a feast for the eyes on the night of October the 31st.

Everybody will remember 2020 as the most-spooky year of all time. It looks like all the conspiracy theories and weird sightings are coming true from the potential World War 3 threat to a deadly virus creating havoc all over the skies, and from Pentagon’s declassification of UFO files to a V for Vendetta themed Black Lives Matter. Most of the unimaginable things have happened, and people wish to see no more. However, the year isn’t done yet, and there is one more bizarre thing left for you to witness. Bizarre or beautiful, you name it, it doesn’t matter.

If the words of an astronomy expert Jeffrey Hunt are to be believed, this year’s full moon occurring on Halloween night will be visible to the entire world and not just to a specific area; a rare magnificent event which is happening for the first time since world war 2.

Jeffrey Hunt, who is also a former planetarium director, spoke to CNET.com regarding the event. He said that though video games and pop culture movies make us believe otherwise, a Halloween full moon does not happen every year. A notion that it does is very common, and even Hunt’s own students had this misconception up until the time he educated them about it. The last time such an event was visible for the entire world was in 1944, when the world was still reeling from the world war devastation, and Hitler was still alive. However, he explained in the interview, a similar event did happen in some part of the world back in 1955, but it remained anonymous to North America and the Western Pacific.

Hunt was careful to give some caveats. He said that the event is visible to most parts of the world including North America, South America, areas near to Indian Ocean, Europe, Russia and almost the entire Asian subcontinent, and Western Australia; it will not be seen in the skies of Eastern part and Central part of Australia.

Hunt clarified that people should be careful with the time zones when deciding whether the scenic will be present in their area or not. He quoted, “those east of (GMT) +8 time zones if they have daylight time, or (GMT) +9 with no daylight time” will not be lucky.

One of the fun excerpts from his interview was him saying that the enthusiasts do not really need high tech equipment to see it. It is a full moon; all we need to do is walk outside our house and look upwards. It will not even matter if you live in a barn in a remote area or in a crowded place like New York. The view will be so bright that it will be visible everywhere.

However, one must be careful while taking a snap of it. It does not matter if you have a 100 megapixel DSLR, you need to adjust the brightness and angles properly in order to print in exact color, shape and size which you will see with your naked eye. Of course, you might see a blue moon or full moon on Halloween in your area before that but bear in mind that it wouldn’t be a worldwide event.
